Dr. Ron Binder

Ron is passionate about students! He has been highly involved with students for nearly 30 years as a proud initiate of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, a Greek Advisor for 20 years at three major institutions, a national volunteer for the Association of Fraternity Advisors, a scholar on fraternities & sororities and student groups, a frequent presenter on college campuses, and a national authority on Greeks and student organizations in North America. He has appeared on the NBC Nightly News, NPR's Talk of the Nation, Court TV, Newsweek, and multiple other media outlets, passionately talking students and how they can make the best of their college career.

Binder received his Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Toledo, Master's degree in Higher Education from Bowling Green State University where he served as a House Dad for Lambda Chi Alpha and Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) fraternities, and his Doctorate from the University of Georgia (his dissertation is on Scholarship and Greeks). He has worked as a Greek Advisor at the University of Georgia, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and at Bowling Green State University. He has been actively involved as a leader in the Association of Fraternity Advisors; serving as the chair of their Risk Management Committee for many years, and most recently serving as its National President. Ron is currently an AFA Foundation Board member. He also serves as the National Vice President for Gamma Sigma Alpha - National Greek Academic Honor Society.

Ron's passion for higher education stems from his involvement with his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and his involvement in Orientation and Student Government as an undergraduate. He has advised several SigEp chapters across the country and currently advises his home chapter, where he and his partner host etiquette dinners each semester. On the national level, Ron chairs SigEp's National Leadership Committee, which oversees their Leadership Continuum; a comprehensive, successive, leadership curriculum that touches over 5,000 students annually.

Ron is in high demand as a speaker, appearing at over 100 campuses, many national conferences, and at several national fraternity and sorority conventions. He has impacted over 10,000 students with his talks on Risk Management and Alcohol and Substance Abuse.

Ron has also published several articles and chapters in books, and is often cited for his expertise in Newsweek, NBC Nightly News, NPR's Talk of the Nation, and Court TV. As the inventor of the Hazing Hotline, Ron is called upon frequently to work with colleges and universities to improve Greek Life and Student Activities.

Testimonials

"The Risk Management program Dr. Binder organized gave us a rare opportunity to openly discuss the issues facing the Greek community here at Penn. It also served to bring together the various Greek leaders from all over campus in an effort to resolve these issues. The opportunity to share ideas with people who have extensive experience in the field was very valuable, and their insights helped give us direction for the future. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Binder's program to any Greek community."
~~Jason Cali, IFC President, University of Pennsylvania

"The IFC Risk Management program Ron conducted at Penn offered fraternity members an important opportunity to have an honest discussion about challenges within the community, educated the membership on approaches they could utilize to reduce their risks and formulated a plan for making strategic changes to current operations. I heard positive feedback on the layout of the program and the conversations that occurred from IFC officers, chapter presidents and new members. Overall, I am extremely happy we brought Ron to campus."
~~Stacy Kraus, Assistant Director in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, University of Pennsylvania
